- Two-Lane or Multi-Lane Undivided Roads: Vehicles in all lanes and both directions must stop. A painted center line or a paved turn lane is not a barrier—oncoming traffic must stop.
- Divided Highways: Oncoming traffic in the opposite direction may continue only if the highway is separated by a physical barrier (like a concrete median) or an unpaved space at least 5 feet wide. Traffic moving in the same direction as the bus must always stop.

- Passing on the Right (The Entry/Exit Side): Passing on the side where children are actively loading or unloading is a major violation. It carries a minimum $400 fine, mandatory court appearance, and a license suspension of up to 2 years for a repeat offense.
- Mandatory Education: Any driver convicted of an officer-issued school bus traffic citation is legally required to complete a basic Driver Improvement Course.

While drivers must follow the law, parents should review these essential “Danger Zone” rules with their students to prevent pedestrian injuries:
