Why Hire an Injury Attorney at Light & Wyatt?

If you suffered a serious injury that was caused by the negligence or malicious acts of another party, you may be asking yourself whether you should hire an injury lawyer to handle your claim.

You are not legally obligated to hire an attorney to file your injury claim, negotiate with insurers, or even battle it out in court. Hiring an attorney at Light & Wyatt, however, can significantly improve your chances of achieving a successful outcome.

Here’s why.
1

We stand up to the insurance companies

Insurance companies and large corporations typically have teams of experienced lawyers on their payroll who are hired to defend injury claims just like yours. These lawyers will stop at nothing to minimize your injuries, point the blame on someone else, and even deny your claim. We stand up to powerful insurance companies and large corporations that seek to deny injured victims fair compensation, making sure they pay for the harm they have caused.

2

We hold all negligent parties accountable

Multiple defendants may be able to be held liable for your injuries under various legal theories. An experienced personal injury attorney will investigate your accident and evaluate the factors that may have contributed to your injuries. Identifying all parties who may be liable for your losses enables our legal team to expand the path to recovery, maximizing your settlement. Studies reveal that victims who hire a personal injury lawyer to represent them recover nearly three times the compensation recovered by victims who handle their own claims.

3

Experience and reputation on your side

Our law firm has earned a reputation for successfully handling difficult injury cases. We handle all types of personal injury cases including those involving car accidents, truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, and bicycle and pedestrian accidents, as well as premises liability cases, wrongful death, and insurance bad faith claims throughout the state. Fighting to protect the rights of injured victims in Florida since 1990, our law firm has recovered millions of dollars on behalf of our clients.

FAQs About Accident and Injury Cases

Should I accept the insurance company’s offer?

People who file a personal injury claim should consult with their lawyer before accepting an offer from the insurance company. In most cases, insurance representatives will go to great lengths to minimize payouts on personal injury claims. This includes denying fault, downplaying the victim’s losses, and even pointing fingers at the injury victim.

How much does it cost to hire a Florida injury lawyer?

Many personal injury lawyers in Florida accept accident cases on a contingency fee basis. With this type of arrangement, the law firm shoulders the financial burdens that accompany claims negotiations, investigations, and even representing you in court. You don’t pay attorney fees up front. Your attorney will subtract their fees and costs from your settlement or injury award when you win your case. If YOU DON’T WIN, YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY.

Are there damages caps for injury cases in Florida?

While there are no caps on economic and non-economic damages that can be recovered in injury cases in the state, Florida imposes soft caps on punitive damages. Designed to punish the wrongdoer for egregious acts, punitive damages are limited to three times the amount of compensatory damages, or $500,000, whichever is higher. There are exceptions to the rule, however. If the defendant intentionally committed the acts for the purpose of financial gain, punitive damages can be as much as four times the amount of compensatory damages, or $2 million dollars, whichever is higher.

What is the time limit for filing an injury lawsuit in Florida?

In most cases, there is a strict deadline that applies to filing an injury lawsuit in Florida. While there are exceptions, victims of car accidents, slip and falls, and other types of personal injuries caused by negligence have just two years from the date of the incident to file a lawsuit. If you wait until after the deadline has passed to take legal action, you will most likely be barred from recovering compensation for your losses.
