Clearwater, FL (November 12th, 2025) – Approximately 64,000 Inkari plush alpaca toys have been recalled due to a choking hazard that violates federal safety standards. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall affecting toys sold nationwide, including throughout Clearwater and Florida, between November 2020 and July 2025. The toys’ eyes can detach, creating a choking risk for young children.

Which Alpaca Toys Were Recalled?

The recall covers five specific collections of Inkari plush alpacas:

  • Naturals Collection
  • Baristas Collection
  • Rainbow Collection
  • Monsterfluffs Collection
  • Limited Edition Collection

These wool-stuffed toys were sold in multiple colors including white, ivory, light brown, dark brown, black, pink, purple, light blue, and mixed colors. They came in four sizes: mini (approximately six inches tall), small (approximately nine inches tall), medium (approximately 12 inches tall), and large (approximately 19 inches tall).

All recalled toys have “INKARI” printed on a label attached to the underside of the toy. The products were sold at specialty stores nationwide and online through Amazon.com, Etsy.com, and Inkari-alpaca.com between November 2020 and July 2025, with prices ranging from $25 to $100.

What Makes The Alpaca Toys So Dangerous?

The recalled Inkari alpaca toys were designed and marketed for children under three years of age. However, the toys violate federal small parts regulations because the eyes can detach from the plush animals, creating a choking hazard. When small parts like these become loose, they can become lodged in a young child’s airway, a risk that becomes especially concerning given that a child’s trachea is approximately the size of a drinking straw in diameter.

The CPSC issued this recall because the toys directly violate the federal small parts ban established to protect our youngest children. While no injuries have been reported as of the recall date, the potential for serious harm or death from choking prompted immediate regulatory action.

Why Choking Hazards Are So Dangerous for Young Children

For Clearwater parents and caregivers, understanding the severity of choking risks is critical. Choking remains the fourth leading cause of unintentional death in children under five-years-old. According to one study, children under five-years-old accounted for 73% of nonfatal injuries and 75% of choking fatalities, making them the highest risk group.

Children under three are particularly vulnerable because they:

  • Have underdeveloped airways and swallowing mechanisms
  • Explore the world by putting objects in their mouths
  • Lack the coordination to effectively cough out foreign objects
  • Cannot always communicate distress effectively

Young children’s natural curiosity combined with their oral exploration habits makes detachable toy parts especially hazardous. Even when parents are vigilant, small parts can detach during normal play without immediate notice.

Florida Product Liability Law and Your Rights

When defective products harm consumers or create unreasonable safety risks, Florida product liability law provides legal remedies. Under Florida law, manufacturers, distributors, and sellers can be held accountable when products fail to meet safety standards or cause injuries.

In cases involving recalled children’s products like these alpaca toys, several legal principles may apply:

Strict Liability for Defective Products

Florida law allows injured parties to pursue claims against manufacturers without necessarily proving negligence. If a product is unreasonably dangerous due to a design defect, manufacturing defect, or inadequate warnings, the manufacturer may be held strictly liable for resulting injuries.

Violation of Federal Safety Standards

These Inkari toys violated the federal small parts ban established under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act and enforced by the CPSC. When products violate mandatory safety regulations, this violation can serve as evidence in personal injury claims.

Failure to Warn

Manufacturers have a duty to provide adequate warnings about known dangers associated with their products. If a toy poses a choking hazard to the intended age group, then appropriate warnings must be provided. Alternatively, the product should not be marketed to that age group at all.

For Clearwater families, if a child suffers injury from a recalled product, you may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages. Even in cases are recalls are issued before injuries occur, understanding your legal rights remains important.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Alpaca Toy Recall

Q: My child has been playing with this toy for months without problems. Is it really dangerous?

A: Yes. The fact that the eyes haven’t detached yet doesn’t mean they won’t. The CPSC issued this recall because the toys violate federal safety standards. The eyes can detach during normal use, creating an immediate choking hazard. The potential for serious injury or death exists as long as the toy remains in use. Remove it from your child’s access immediately and contact Inkari for a refund.

Q: Will I have to prove I purchased the toy to get a refund?

According to the CPSC recall notice, you’ll need to contact Inkari directly to request a refund. The company may ask for a photo as proof of destruction. You do not necessarily need to provide a receipt, but follow Inkari’s specific instructions when you contact them.
